    Episode 3 – Geek Rage

    Published on April 15, 2012 by in Podcast

    In this episode, Jordan shocks (no one) with the fact that he’s Canadian. Michael gets bleeped and goes all Geek Rage on Games Workshop, but oddly not in the same segment. Jeff goes Geek Rage on season 2 of Game of Thrones. Jeff also threatens to consult Craig’s List for new co-hosts. Bonus: Find the times that Sadie (Jeff’s dog) “contributes” to the show.

      Hi Guys! I listened to the episode with Michael on our way home from Sioux City this weekend and I must say, being only a somewhat casual (and at times even reluctant- right Michael?) gamer myself, I really enjoyed it overall! The three of you have good chemistry and I think the segments you’re doing offer nice variety. I do have a bit of constructive criticism to offer as well. I would suggest a time limit for each segment, and/or for the podcast as a whole. Some of the segments seemed to drag on a bit. In this episode in particular, I would pinpoint the Game Crafter segment as a point where I began to lose some interest. I think this was partly because the three of you weren’t talking and interacting as much in this segment and I feel that is where the strength of the podcast truly lies. Even hard core geeks only have so much time on their hands so I can’t imagine they would be opposed to time limits either. Overall though like I said, I really enjoyed listening to it and found it entertaining! Keep up the great work guys! Love you all! :-)

      • Hey Kate!

        Sorry I bored you, PLP!! ;-P As the saying goes, you can’t please everyone. We’ve actually gotten comments in the other direction that we should be more detailed with our segments. But it is definitely something we’ll keep an eye on and try to get a majority pulse for in the future. We’re still new and I’m open to any changes/improvements we can make. ;-}

        I also cut a fair amount here and there. I think this podcast ended up with a little over a half hour on the cutting room floor. So you were spared that. ;-P

        I completely agree that we are at our best when we get some good interaction going between the 3 of us. Even though the hardest part of editing is when all 3 of us are interacting, I enjoy those segments while having to re-listen to the audio 5+ times.

        Part of having the 3 of us together is that we cover even more topics that we’re not all in to; which can make for some “quiet” times from the other hosts. I know I tend to be a lot quieter when Jordan and Michael talk about miniatures stuff. But I do try to find something I can ask a question about when possible. ;-}

        I’m glad you were able to enjoy most of the podcast as a casual(ish) gamer. That’s cool because I don’t necessarily want to be completely hardcore about our subjects.

        Love you! And thanks for suffering through with Michael on a road trip! (Being with Michael on a road trip; not having to listen to our podcast. ;-P)

    2. What does tabletop gaming mean to me? Tabletop gaming is a way to socially interact with friends face-to-face and challenge my brain at the same time. It’s a creative outlet that involves critical thinking. I play most games just with my husband and that gives us another way to connect and become closer to each other, even when playing competitive games. But we tend more towards euro so it’s not direct conflict.

      Played Waterdeep once so far and enjoyed it. Was confused by some of the play at first, but got into it pretty quickly. It was a great break for our D&D group. Looking forward to playing it again. That must be the worst box I have ever seen! Oh, and I have heard that there will be an expansion, though I don’t know what it will be.

      Funny to mention leaving the crown royal bag at home for playing Waterdeep. A friend gave me a crown royal bag as a gag gift to hold my dice one year. I didn’t use it since I already had a leather bag with a dragon on it. I didn’t think to ask, but I should have inquired as to where the contents of the bag went… ;-)

      Legend of Korra wasn’t as good as The Last Airbender, but it was still enjoyable. Gotta say, her first line as a kid was hilarious. There were good moments throughout, but the end was rather rushed and a bit weird. But looking forward to more.

      Tabletop is fun to watch for the interactions between players, but I still prefer Dice Tower for learning about the game and whether I’d want to play it. Also, Tabletop has done mostly light games. I hope the second season will have some heavier euro games or show some 2 player games.

      We love turn-based RPGs, but there aren’t many new ones any more. We’ve been trying some of the arcade/indie games on Xbox that are turn-based and some are fun.

      Really wish I had been able to support Ground Floor on KS. Can’t wait for it to come out in stores. It sounds really good.

      Nice to hear more about the Game Crafter. It’s a great resource and we’re really enjoying using it to make games. Hope to make something for sale soon, but still in the playtesting phase.
