Earliest geek moment: For me three moments solidified my geekness, all rather fairly young. For me growing up didn’t have anything incommon with anyone in my family still don’t really, but one spring (believe I was 6 or 7) my uncle came up from university. My grandparents had a huge old cassette player (beta probly) and my uncle brought up several tapes of the original Star Trek series. The next week was spent hunkered down in front of the Montgomery Ward tv watching these over and over. By the end realized I’d found my hobby and somebody to identify with.
Then there’s the time I was digging in a closet and found this Colecovision when I was 6. I’d never seen or played a video game before. It was like magic, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Zaxxon to this day still my favorite system.
The last one was the very first time I saw the Ghostbusters. That was a couple months before they released the sequel. I begged and pleaded to go and ended up sitting in the theater wearing an Egon Speglar halloween costume with the the toy trap, and proton pack. Don’t feel bad Michael my mom brought along a camcorder and there’s these very embarrassing videos of me down front before the movie acting out my own Spooktacular infront of about 60 strangers.
Being THAT geek: It’s funny it wasn’t till I was a senior in highschool and I was exposed to those sorts through Heroclix tourneys that I had any concept that people could end up that way. I was always a geek. I may have even been borderline THAT way. (I cringe at the few times in Junior High I wore a Starfleet uniform to school. Thankfully I was in a similar state as Jeff and was well liked in general and people just thought I was being ironic or did it on a lark.)
Reviews: Sentinels of The Multiverse sound interesting love to try it sometime.
What your Watching: Watched HG with a friend and when it was done we both nearly quoted Jeff by saying,”Battle Royal did it better and with subtitles.” Funny part is we didn’t know at the time that we’d both seen BR.
Loving the show fellas keep them coming
Awesome comments, Justin! We’ll share them on the next podcast. Thanks for listening!
Thanks again for the mentions! 3 hours?! Nice work!! I ended up backing Leisure Suit Larry, a guilty pleasure from my early teen years. I havent backed anything else this week though Cartoona and Gunship closed
Great show, who would have thought I’d enjoy hearing your voices again after 4 years?
I’m impressed that you keep your game reviews quite brief.
Recently, I’ve become more interested in Cthulhu games (Mansions of Madness, Arkham Horror, Elder Sign) and “Living Card Games” (CoC, LOTR, AGOT). Perhaps in a future episode you can discuss Game of Thrones card and board games and how they match up with the books.
Meng!!
You may not have known you missed our voices, but we’ve missed yours. Michael and I have both said we need to figure out a way to get you on some time. ;-}
We can definitely add that to the list of topics to cover in a future episode. Thanks for the suggestion.
Earliest geeky moments – going to Star Trek conventions during my high school years and getting autographs. I actually was able to convinced my parents to get an expensive leather jacket with DS9 station on back. But it helped that they’re the ones who introduced me to Star Trek. My mom loved the old gen and when the next gen came on, she got me watching it. So it was a family geeky thing.
Not active user of BGG, but have basic collection and wish list. I posted a video for Storm the Castle that my husband and I made out of LEGO. I’ve posted a couple of times. Glad to hear about the list function and may use it. It will definitely help keep track of Kickstarter games.
I was so upset about the turtles movie – I will not see it. How can it be TMNT if they aren’t mutants nor teenagers? They’re halfway not themselves then. But then, how can they be ninja or turtles if they’re not from earth? So they’re alien turtle-shaped fighters of an indeterminate age? ugh….At least I can get my TMNT geek on with the new LEGO sets coming out next year. They may have changed Bebop and Rocksteady to new freaky things, but the turtles still look like themselves. And what pictures I’ve seen so far look nice. Time will tell. I’m not sold on something until I have it in my hands and can see it for myself.
